Major Announcement: Sassafras AllSight

Sassafras Announcement

It may seem like yesterday, but did you know that the original Sassafras KeyServer was launched over 30 years ago? And although it has served us well, the name KeyServer was crafted to refer specifically to a concurrent use license manager, which hardly describes the immensely powerful product suite offered today. Therefore, we’d like to take this opportunity to announce that our full-featured Sassafras IT Asset Management Suite will now be known as Sassafras AllSight. This new product edition rests on the same Sassafras KeyServer Platform, with its proven record of performance, scalability, and reliability. With the release of version 7.7, all of our current customers will automatically be upgraded to the new AllSight product.

Along with many new features of this major update, there are also user interface improvements—including KeyReporter’s expanded and more tightly integrated functionality—which has become simply “the Web UI” for AllSight.

Emails have already been sent to KeyServer administrators announcing the imminent upgrade to AllSight 7.7. Rest assured, from a technical perspective, your new 7.7 license file can be viewed as a standard version update for your current product. You will not lose any of your current functionality when upgrading to AllSight 7.7, but you will gain plenty; and as always, the upgrade process will be simple and seamless.  KeyServer 7.5 or 7.6 are also supported by a 7.7 license file, so you can install it when received and then upgrade the software components to version 7.7 whenever it’s convenient.  More details about Sassafras AllSight, including a slew of new remote management related features (such as enhanced AD and single sign-on authentication, and Guacamole integration), will be announced on Monday, August 24th.

Soon we will also release two additional product offerings: Sassafras KeySight, and Sassafras LabSight. For new customers, these entry-level products may be more appropriate to solve more narrowly focused asset management problems. KeySight will take over for the original KeyServer as our simple, set-it-and-forget-it concurrent use license manager, while LabSight will serve as our computer lab focused product, allowing for simple login and usage tracking, but without entitlement purchase tracking, license management, or some of our powerful integrations.

More details will be added on a brand new website, sassafras.com, on Monday. Until then, we’ll be finalizing documentation, creating demonstration videos, and preparing to make this the most simple, seamless, and uneventful major event you’ve ever experienced. Check back Monday for further details.
