Hello again everyone! Yes, we just put out 7.9.0.3 three weeks ago and already have another update. There is an important reason for this. Honestly we wanted this out last week but had to do our normal QA and it took a few extra days.
The main drive for this rapid follow up was an unexpected side effect of the new feature to gather a list of local admin accounts. On MacOS, the base unix command used for this could in some environments using Apple management cause very long system hangs at login. Usually, going straight to linux APIs is simple and stable – or at least consistent. Obviously in this case we managed to trigger an issue that isn’t in our code and that we did not encounter in testing. We owe thanks and apologies to those sites who encountered it. This new release changes the way we gather that info on MacOS, and it adds a configuration parameter to disable the feature entirely if desired.
Ok, with that out of the way, let’s talk about what’s new! Yep, even with this quick of a release we managed to put in some additional features.
New History Report
The History tracking added in 7.9 has been very well received. Of course with new data comes new requests for reporting right? You can now use the Change History report to pull an aggregated report of changes to several asset management fields. The Options for the report are the important bit here as they allow this one report to be used for 6 different reporting options.
Client Auto Update Setting in KeyConfigure
We added the Self Update feature to the Web UI back in 7.7. But in KeyConfigure you still only had access to the old manual controls. Now if there is a new client available, an Accept button will show in KeyConfigure’s settings as well. Simply click to have the new version info set and serve.
Static Date for Loaners
The Loaner Checkout extra has been quite popular since we introduced it in 7.8. Recently we had a request for setting the due date to a static date (e.g. end of semester) rather than a dynamic date (x days from now). A new setting has been added for this. Simply set the “no later than” date, and ensure the “Default due date in” has a significantly large value (i.e. 365 days). Then when you do a checkout, because the 365 day limit is hit, the no later than date is used for the due date.
URL Tracking
The Chromium core (Google Chrome, MS Edge) recently updated in a way that broke our URL tracking on Windows. We’re not sure when this happened, but it could have just been the 109 update. KeyAccess 7.9.0.4 will now track URLs in these new builds.

- Support for newer RPM based linux distributions (fixes service start issue on RPM9)
- Better presentation of Divisions in the Section Details window (avoids accidental clones)
- Recognition of Rocky Linux
