General Settings Dialog

Overview

This dialog contains general KeyServer settings that will apply to all users.

Default Background Warning Actions

This section of the General Settings Dialog lets you configure what actions will occur by default when a controlled program is idle. Note that these options only apply to controlled programs, not logged or ignored programs. Also, in the License Details Window, you can configure whether programs using the license will have these idle settings, or whether to do something else for that license.

Time Synchronization

This section of the Dialog lets you configure whether users of KeyAccess can choose whether to synchronize the time on their client computer with the time on the server computer. If they cannot choose whether to synchronize, synchronization can be always on, or always off. By default, users can turn time synchronization on and off. Additionally, there is a checkbox which lets you configure whether the server is Time Zone and Daylight Savings Time Aware (off by default).

Auditing

  • Audit new computers automatically is on by default. If you disable this setting, then newly connected computers will be marked with the no-audit symbol as they are discovered in the Computers window. Once computers have been added to the Computers window, you can configure each one individually to audit or not audit.
  • Reschedule Audit every ... lets you configure a time interval at which to perform audits on client computers. Repeated audits allow you to keep audit information accurate as new programs are installed and old ones are uninstalled. By default, audits are not automatically scheduled. Note that in the Computer Details Window, you can turn off automatic audits on a per-computer basis.
  • Throttle Network Traffic lets you configure a threshold for network traffic from audits being sent to the server. If the KeyServer begins to get more traffic than this upper bound, it will tell clients to slow down the rate at which they are sending audit data. By default, there is no throttle. Under normal circumstances, you should not need to set a throttle, since generally, clients will perform audits at various different times, and the audits will never account for very much network traffic. If however you have a situation where many clients are sending audits simultaneously, you may want to set a throttle.

Notice that with the default settings, every client computer will perform exactly one audit, when it first connects to the KeyServer. You will need to change these settings if you do not want clients to perform audits when they first connect, or if you want audits to be rescheduled automatically.
