Computer Details Window

Concept

The computer details window displays the full configuration of a particular computer. See the Computers Window Documentation for more general information about computers.

The Computer details window shows two basic pieces of information at the top of the window: the Node ID and a checkbox which controls whether this computer is allowed to connect to the KeyServer. The Node ID is assigned by KeyConfigure, according to the settings in Computer ID Types in the Admin menu. The window also contains six panes with further information and configuration options. The default view shows the Information and Audit panes.

Information Pane

This pane shows the same information which is displayed in the computers window, and additionally, the Client Version (version of KeyAccess which was running on the computer the last time it connected to KeyServer) and the Last Address the computer used when connecting to KeyServer.

Audit Pane

This pane shows information about hardware and software audits from the computer. Late 6.0 clients will send the hardware information to KeyServer when they first login. Older 6.0 clients only send this information when (and if) they perform a software audit.

  • At the bottom of the pane, the date and time of the Base Audit is displayed. This date is used by some reports to distinguish software which was present in the baseline audit from newly installed or uninstalled software. By default, this field is set to the time of the first audit on the computer. However, it can be changed manually in order to reset the base audit date.
  • Next, the date and time of the Last Audit is displayed.
  • To the right of this field is a button labeled Show, which will open a window showing all programs which were found on the computer (if an audit was performed).
  • Next is a field showing when the next audit will be attempted.
  • To the right is a button labeled Now, which will set the date field to ASAP and attempt to reach the computer and request an audit.
  • At the bottom is a checkbox labelled Update Audits Automatically. This determines whether to automatically schedule new audits once each audit has completed. The time period in between automatic audits can be configured in the General Settings dialog, which is in the Admin menu. If the checkbox is not checked, then no audits will be scheduled automatically, and the computer will only be audited if an administrator manually requests an audit, by clicking the Now button.

Notes Pane

This pane contains a single item, which is a free-form text field. You can use it for any information you want. It can be seen here in the KeyConfigure interface, and can also be used in reports.

Licenses Pane

This pane contains one item - a list of licenses which this computer has used. Node Locked licenses are listed in bold, and other licenses are not. If a license is not node locked, has been used on the computer, but has not been used for over 60 days, it is listed in italics.

To be more precise, this list may not actually contain licenses which have been used - it shows the licenses which have the computer in the node list for the license. Since an administrator can add and delete computers from node lists for licenses, this list may show licenses which the computer has never actually used (in which case the Last Usage column will show the time at which the administrator manually added the computer to the node list). It also may not show licenses which have been used on the computer, if an administrator has since removed the computer from the node list for the license.

Also note that licenses can be dragged directly from the licenses window into this list in order to add the computer to the node list for the license. Likewise, licenses can be deleted from this list, deleting the computer from the node list for the license.

Groups Pane

This pane contains a list of groups which the computer belongs to as a member of the node list for the group. That is, the computer may satisfy the location requirement for a group that is purely location based, but that group won't be listed in the Groups pane of the computer details, because the computer isn't explicitly defined in the node list of the group.

Asset Pane

This pane allows you to configure custom fields for each computer. These fields can be used by reports. Only Asset ID and Location are enabled for editing. If you enter a value in either of these two fields and save the change, the Confirmed field will automatically be filled in with the current date and time, and the Confirmed By field will be filled in with the KeyServer account name which you are logged into KeyConfigure with.
